Visual Coding System

I developed a visual coding system to better recognize nutritional content and dietary restrictions for Bakery Items at Trader Joe’s.

I developed my foundational design around the concept of wheat and its structure, with changes for the various categories.

I used the Kelvin Temperature Scale to influence the colors used to identify the bread Items. For example, on the scale, blue is used to represent high energy, therefore it represent high contents of processed flour in bread.

After much research, I found that one of the most important contents in bread is Niacin, a vitamin that we use to turn food into energy.

To communicate this, items with the presence of Niacin are illustrated with a wave of energy around them.
